30872- EXCELLENT CIVIL WAR ORIGINAL COOK & BROTHER CSA CONFEDERATE .58 CAL. INFANTRY RIFLE DATED 1863. .58 cal. rifled 33” barrel stamped “PROVED” at breech, “COOK & BROTHER” on top of barrel as well as “ATHENS, GA. 1863” and serial numbered “2421”. Lock stamped with the Confederate flag behind the hammer and forward of the hammer “COOK & BROTHER ATHENS, GA./1863” and serial numbered “2421”. Brass butt plate stamped “CS” on tang. Lock plate screws serial numbered to gun as well as the barrel tang screw. Hammer screw also numbered. All are matching. Brass mounts. Stock with exceptionally crisp inspector’s cartouche and inspection stamped in small block letters “NSR”. Excellent condition and certainly one of the finest examples known it retains most of the original plum brown patina on the barrel and grey case hardening on the lock plate. Stock with all the original finish and the cartouche is in perfect condition. Working order and superb bore with crisp rifling. (Sale pending)
